Each sticker corresponds to one of the 8 ink colors from the series and a historical ceramic artifact from the Yuan, Ming, Tang, Qing, and Song Dynasties. Li Yan Xun spent years researching and cataloging the glaze pigments used in Jingdezhen during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Through his Yan Cai project, he revived more than 60 historic glazes and together with Yoseka, selected 8, which he felt were representative across different dynasties. With the help of Ink Institute in Taiwan, we were able to translate these glazes into our collection of Ceramics Inks.

<span style="color: creation of special projects with each of our team members that we could share with our customers. Over the next few months, we announced the release of these items. From Jane’s Yoseka Museum Postcard/Pencil Board to Ashley’s Note Writing Pad to Christine’s Fountain Pen Bookmark, every detail of each of these products was thoughtfully planned. Our main motivation for these special projects was to encourage our team to use their creativity, which we wanted to share with you all, and we are proud that we have gotten to a place where we are able to devote some of our resources during each work day to creation, design and experimentation. The earliest iteration of this shade was seen in the Han Dynasty, and similar yellow-brown glaze tones were developed throughout the following Tang, Song, and Liao Dynasties. In Chinese, the word “yellow” is a homophone for the word “emperor” — therefore, this yellow glaze was reserved for imperial ceramics, symbolizing royalty, divinity, and wealth. Later, this yellow was also adopted onto the plates used for the emperor’s ancestral temple offerings, raising the prestige associated with this color. Working with this glaze required a high level of expertise and care. For example, the Kangxi Emperor was adamant that imperial wares that were glazed with this carmine red achieved a specifically “royal” shade, even if that meant artisans had to fire each piece several times. Because there were few kilns dedicated to serving the imperial appetite for this carmine red glaze, these wares were known even at the time to be rare imperial porcelain. Over the following dynasties, the glaze became less and less popular due to its production cost and excessive crafting process; therefore, specific shades of carmine red are unique to the Qing Dynasty.

Qianlong-era enameled carmine red bowl with butterfly motif (ca.
